Mavis M. Jarrell (M. M. Jarrell) is retired as an academic advisor from the University of South Alabama. She has award-winning poetry in several periodicals. Chicken Soup For The Soul anthologies contain her short stories. One of these won first place in the 2014 Southern Christian Writers Conference contest for published works.

Besides earning a Master Degree in Instructional Design and Development, Mavis attributes her writing and leadership abilities to knowledge gained through years of guidance and encouragement of teens and adults within multiple organizations.  Her volunteer efforts include fourteen years as a small group facilitator in both widowed and divorced recovery programs. Her philosophy is that life’s challenges make us stronger when used as a learning tool to change, move forward then help others to do the same.

Ms. Jarrell is the newly-elected president of The Pensters writing group in Fairhope, Alabama, that celebrates its fiftieth year in operation this year. It is noted as the largest writing group in the area. One of her goals for the group is to encourage writing within the younger generation.

Her other memberships include, Gulf Coast Writers Association, Alabama State Poetry Society, Alabama Writers Conclave, Baldwin Writers Group, Mobile Writers Guild, and Hillcrest Writers of Mobile.
